The Ann Arbor Area Convention and Visitors Bureau (AAACVB) is excited to announce a welcome celebration in downtown Ann Arbor on August 1, 2014 from 3pm – 11:00pm to kick-off the Guinness® International Champions Cup weekend.

The Guinness® International Champions Cup is a competitive European soccer club preseason tournament playing in a total of 12 cities and 13 stadiums across the United States and Canada. As part of the tournament, Manchester United (England) and Real Madrid (Spain) will meet at Michigan Stadium on August 2 at 4pm. The Friday night event will coincide with the Real Madrid and Manchester United training sessions scheduled for 5pm and 7pm, respectively. Tickets for the training session are available at MGoBlue.com.

“Manchester United and Real Madrid are the two most storied clubs in soccer and fans in Ann Arbor quickly realized the magnitude of the game,” said Charlie Stillitano, CEO of Relevent Sports, the tournament organizer.  “This weekend in August will be more than just a game, but rather a celebration of sport and entertainment in one of the best college towns in America and we are excited to work with the AAACVB to make sure the entire community is involved.”

Matthew Altruda, host of Tree Town Sound (treetownsound.com) on Ann Arbor’s 107.1, will lead the festivities as master of ceremonies. There will be two stages and 14 musical performances with the energetic Joe Hertler & the Rainbow Seekers headlining the night.

Joe Hertler and the Rainbow Seekers is a rising Detroit band attracting large audiences to the Ann Arbor Summer Festival and Sonic Lunch earlier this summer and recently performed at the Common Ground Music Festival in Lansing. With their infectious rhythms and upbeat songs, the six-person group is an ideal fit for a summer evening celebration.

“We are very excited to welcome our out-of-town visitors, as well as members of our local community, to celebrate this historic game between Real Madrid and Manchester United at Michigan Stadium,” says AAACVB President and CEO, Mary Kerr. “This is a great opportunity for us to share all that the area has to offer, including a vibrant downtown corridor, with an international audience.”
